This Fall, BAC’s Creative Coalitions is Still Bringing Art to Life
Throughout the summer, Creative Coalitions’ series Bringing Art to Life has been celebrating the amazing artistic talents and beautiful green spaces of Bushwick, Brownsville, and East New York.
In August, artists including Thelma “Ruffin” Thomas, James Johnson, Majestic Funk, Cordon Michael, Underground Drum and Dance Ensemble, El Puente’s Poetic Kings, Miss Zukie, Xmental, Powerful Pioneers, Bomba Yo, Mr. Reed, Mathamatics Patterson, Zip Nij, Winston Huggins, Ian Lyn, Abdul Badi, Word Up Café poets, and Grace Drums teamed up with garden groups and community organizations including Friends of Biko, East New York Farms!, Cypress Hills LDC, Isabahlia Ladies of Elegance Foundation, Granite Street Garden, Newport Gardens, El Jardin del Pueblo/The People’s Garden, Floral Vineyard Garden, Clara’s Garden, and Paradise PS 4 Garden to music, dance, poetry, painting, photography, and hands-on art activities to residents of all ages.

ELDERT STREET BLOCK PARTY

Musical performances, free family portraits, breakdancing, film screenings, and education about Superfund sites. Also enjoy garden activities throughout the day and pot-luck dinner at sunset.
This fall, Creative Coalitions is working with our partners to support three exciting mural projects: in Bushwick with Xmental, creating the “Halsey Street Dreamway,” a collaborative mural with 15 artists; in Brownsville as part of the Department of Transportation Artervention program, with Brownsville Community Justice Center and artist Quardean Lewis-Allen; and in East New York with Arts East NY and artist Laolu Senbanjo.
